From September 23 to 25, the 6th PIT Hackathon took place at the Heinz Nixdorf MuseumsForum in Paderborn. The Hackathon (= hack + marathon), which is organized by PIT (Paderborn ist Informatik), has the goal to encourage young programmers in the region.
A total of 64 pupils, trainees, and students came together to gain an insight into computer science and software development. Together with their like-minded peers, they developed digital projects using role models and teamwork. The participants were split in teams of 3-6 and worked on a self-selected project in the areas of Games, Mobile App, IoT, and Code Camp.
COMPRION not only supported the organization of the event, but also provided a mentor. The task of the mentors, who are experienced software developers themselves, is to motivate the various teams and provide them with methodological assistance, e.g., GIT or SCRUM, and technical support.
Besides 72 hours of hardcore programming, the young IT talents also had a lot of fun while socializing and networking with other participants and mentors. One highlight of the Hackathon was the final demonstration on a big stage hosted by a professional presenter, where each team introduced their projects to the other participants, teachers, and parents.
