The GSMA represents the interests of more than 800 mobile operators and more than 230 companies in the broader mobile ecosystem, including handset manufacturers, software companies, equipment providers, and internet companies, as well as organizations in adjacent industry sectors. Several working groups within the GSMA association bring the industry together to gather opinions, reach consensus and approve documentation. Main focus of this work is to drive the harmonization of the mobile ecosystem.
Bringing Know-How & Expertise to GSMA Testing
As an associate member of GSMA, COMPRION is active in the GSMA Terminal Steering Group (TSG) and eSIM Group, a subgroup of Industry Specification Approving Group (ISAG). The main target of the TSG is to align mobile terminal and platform capability requirements, mobile terminal interoperability, and testing guidelines. The eSIM Group is responsible for all activities around eSIM/Remote SIM Provisioning, especially for drafting of the eSIM requirements, their technical implementation, test and compliance specifications.
The eSIM defined by GSMA for machine-to-machine (M2M) market in SGP.01 and SGP.02 specifications, is becoming essential for the industry in all types of connected devices. The tests for the eUICC and the off-card interfaces within the M2M environment are specified in the GSMA Test Specification SGP.11. COMPRION is offering the respective compliance test case packages, qualified by GlobalPlatform for the eUICC.
Testing of devices and eSIMs within the consumer device environment is defined in the GSMA Test Specification SGP.23. COMPRION was among the main contributors to the initial set of test cases and is still actively involved in the work of the eSIM WG3 (former TEST group). These tests have been integrated into the conformance program of the Global Certification Forum (GCF) for the device and qualified by GlobalPlatform for the eUICC. COMPRION is offering test solutions for both, consumer eUICCs and devices.
For establishing a reliable RSP infrastructure, it does not suffice to test the characteristics and behavior of the individual components such as the eUICC or the involved back-end servers. It is essential to look at the communication between the several entities. COMPRION offers GSMA compliant components of the RSP ecosystem which can be used for even more comprehensive testing.
The TSG has a dedicated subgroup delivering NFC handset requirements, NFC handset test cases, and input to certification forums and other industry groups.
The most comprehensive collection of test cases for mobile devices supporting UICC-based NFC services is the GSMA TS.27 NFC Handset Test Book. It is defining the requirements needed to test the related core specification GSMA TS.26. COMPRION – also an active member of the NFC Forum – supports the development of the GSMA TS.27 NFC Handset Test Book. We offer the highest coverage of TS.27 test cases, which are also part of GCF work items, in our solution.
The introduction of devices with non-removable UICCs presents a need to review best practices for testing. Therefore GSMA created the Generic Test Profile which contains the main required characteristics of the UICCs previously used for testing of the devices. COMPRION actively contributed to the specification of this profile in GSMA TS.48 - Generic eUICC Test Profile for Device Testing.
The Generic Test Profile is made available for download using COMPRION's eSIM Test Profile Service.
