Near Field Communication (NFC) is the standard for short distance contactless data exchange. The technology is a simple extension of the ISO/IEC 14443 proximity card standard (contactless card, RFID) that combines the interface of a smart card and a reader into a single device. NFC is primarily designed for usage in smartphones, allowing the consumers to use their smartphones as a virtual entrance ticket or a means of payment. These applications take place within a security-relevant environment and need to be based on comprehensively tested components. The communication standards for NFC-enabled devices like smartphones, NFC tags, smart posters and NFC readers have been defined by ISO/IEC, NFC Forum and GSMA on different levels. Every component manufacturer faces the task of assuring the correct implementation.
