The NFC interface design is key for a good performance of NFC applications. This is because NFC can only work fine if the involved interfaces are designed properly. Hence, field coverage, reader sensitivity,  functionality, and, overall interoperability adhere to global standards. Therefore, CL Development Line provides means to validate all these aspects of NFC design. So, it is absolutely necessary for the optimization of NFC antennas.

Operating Volume of NFC Devices

 

The operating volume defines the three-dimensional space in which an NFC-enabled device running in poll mode is able to communicate with an NFC listener.

To optimize transfer within, the strength of the magnetic field must be sufficiently high. In addition, the ability of the reader, aka "Poller" in NFC Forum terms to detect a card or so-called "Listener" is key. It must differentiate a weak signal from noise. This is called "sensitivity" or "receptivity".

 
 
 

Design & Validate the Reader´s Operating Volume Faster

Design Validation Center together with the calibrated  CL Development line hardware provides measuring means for validating an NFC operating volume. Thus, designing it according to the requirements of the application is a lot faster with:

NFC Interoperability Testing with COMPRION

COMPRION's solution for interoperability testing on the contactless interface shows in a convenient way if partners talking via the NFC interface speak the same language and if there are communication errors. It provides a protocol analyzer for debugging real NFC communication on all NFC layers.

It offers comprehensive measurements and analysis features, such as:

  • Recording, visualization, and interpretation of signals and exchanged data on all levels
    (analog/protocol/application)
  • Analysis of the analog signal and NFC quick measurements

The solution consists of:

Conformance Testing

Standardization bodies such as NFC Forum, EMVCo, and ISO specify standards for the implementation of NFC technology. They also define the testing for checking if the implementation has been done successfully in conformance with this standards. This procedure is named conformance testing and is done at certified test houses.

 

Pre-Conformance Testing with COMPRION

COMPRION offers the appropriate hardware and software to execute this conformance tests already during development in the lab. The Device Test Center software comes with the same test benches used for analog and digital conformance testing at test houses:

Functional Testing

Individual functions of an NFC-enabled device are out of the scope of the tests defined by standardization bodies such as NFC Forum or EMVCo. But this functionality must also be tested to achieve a good overall quality of the respective components. For extending test coverage beyond conformance standards, programming interfaces are needed, which allow creating individual test scenarios. 

 

Functional Testing with COMPRION

For this purpose, the hardware components of CL Development Line are controlled by Device Test Center.
