COMPRION, a leading provider of mobile device test solutions, is pleased to announce the launch of conformance tests for RedCap devices.
As an extension to the 5G SA tests, RedCap tests are now offered on the COMPRION SIMfony MT8000A test solution. This enables chipset and (IOT) device manufacturers as well as test labs and MNOs to ensure the functionality and compliance of 5G RedCap devices such as smart watches, fitness trackers, smart rings, surveillance cameras, industrial wireless sensors and smart grid devices.
RedCap (Reduced Capability), a specialized IoT technology within the 5G SA standard, is becoming increasingly important. The technology was developed for devices with reduced complexity, longer battery life and lower bandwidth. It has been part of the 3GPP standards for 5G since Release 17 and the Global Certification Forum (GCF) has already included RedCap tests based on the test specifications 3GPP TS 31.121 and 3GPP TS 31.124 in its certification program. The corresponding GCF work items are WI-508-NR_RedCap and WI-509-NR_RedCap. PTCRB is also working on including these tests in the PTCRB device certification.
RedCap tests on COMPRION SIMfony MT8000A are performed using the UT³ Platform conformance test system and the Anritsu MT8000A network simulator. As an alternative to the UT³ Platform, the more cost-effective Prove 2 can be used for pre-conformance and regression testing.
Udo Willenbrink, Product Manager for Mobile Device Test Solutions explains: “Following the 5G SA tests, we are now pleased to offer RedCap tests on the MT8000A network simulator of our long-standing partner Anritsu. The SIMfony MT8000A solution is characterized by a user-friendly interface that controls all test procedures. It also offers fully automated test execution, easy log file management and established test plan management. As with all our test solutions, we take great care to ensure that the tests comply with the test and core specifications, thus guaranteeing high quality and reliability.”
