GCF Validation of COMPRION GSMA SGP.23 RSP Device Tests Activates GCF Work Item 274

COMPRION first to provide GCF-listed RSP consumer device tests

Thanks to newly validated test cases on a COMPRION test platform, an important step forward was taken for the eUICC consumer devices ecosystem: Remote SIM Provisioning (RSP) testing for consumer devices becomes part of GCF’s Mobile Type Approval certification program.

The GSMA has been working hard to push forward the RSP functionality. A set of technical and test specifications has been created to enable reliable and globally interoperable services. “The technology is used to allow switching a device’s subscription from one mobile network operator (MNO) to another without swapping physical SIM cards. This is already possible with a limited number of devices – think of LTE-enabled Apple Watch Series 3 or variants of the Samsung Gear smartwatch – and selected service providers,” explains Dr. Frank Oberhokamp, Product Manager at COMPRION. In order to provide compliant and interoperable offerings, the device tests defined in the SGP.23 RSP Test Specification have been integrated into the conformance program of the Global Certification Forum (GCF) in the form of the new work item (WI) 274. WI RSP Device (LPAd) Conformance Testing contains a total of 92 test cases, 79 of which deemed as mission critical by the GSMA.

COMPRION, the long-trusted provider of GCF test solutions, was the only company to present validation reports for the first set of RSP consumer device tests as defined in SGP.23. These reports have been accepted during the recent GCF CAG meeting taking place in Venice. “The validation has activated WI-274, which means that henceforth all devices supporting RSP functionality will need to run and pass these tests before they are accepted by GCF to be released to the market. This, of course, is a very important building block for globally interoperable RSP technology,“ states Oberhokamp.

The test cases are immediately available and run on the GCF-listed test platform TP 203 COMPRION RSP Conformance Platform. It consists of the actual test bench and the well-established test plan management software Connectivity Test Center.
