When Vodafone's SIM Technology Centre started with a new strategy of SIM card qualification five years ago, COMPRION was part of this new concept from the very beginning. Vodafone runs the so-called self-certification process for SIM cards, where the SIM suppliers test their own products, based on a dedicated test suite delivered by Vodafone. To fulfill the needs of such a powerful test environment, Vodafone selected COMPRION's Spectro 2 platform with its Card Test Center software.
Currently, the test suite with all APIs and test scripts comes with more than 100,000 lines of source code, covering more than 1,200 pages of specifications, and constantly being enlarged by new functionalities. In this context, COMPRION has developed several test items that cover technologies from GlobalPlatform, ETSI, or 3GPP. Today, several international teams are permanently upgrading the test suite and the test scripts. In order to guarantee the consistency and quality of the source code development at all times, COMPRION has also introduced a version control system (VCS) which checks for incompatibilities with previous releases regularly and fully automatically.
Vodafone’s SIM Technology Centre is based in Düsseldorf, Germany, and takes care of the SIM technology used by all Vodafone affiliates worldwide. Thanks to the self-certification process and the test suite, it has been possible to increase the test automation up to 95% and to reduce the time to market for new SIM products by approximately 60%. This concept is outstanding in the industry.
