  • COTS Test Tool

EMVCo has defined separate approval processes for Mobile and Wearable Level 1, to improve global interoperability even more. COMPRION´s PICC Analog Test Solution implements the adopted test plan for compliance to EMVCo requirements on the physical interface. PICC stands for Proximity Integrated Circuit Card, but it is applicable to all form factors like cards, smartphones and also wearables.

COMPRION´s EMVCo PICC Analog Test Solution implements this test plan for the following product approvals:

It is coming with everything needed for accurate and fast positioning with a robot in a safety cell. Important to know, that it is available in two versions:

EMVCo PICC Analog Test Solution

Features & Benefits

  • Extremely precise positioning system as proven by measurement uncertainty study
  • Integrated monitoring antenna captures traced data without disturbing the field
  • "Live-Logs" available already during test case execution
  • Fastest test case execution (based on comparison made by NFC Forum)
  • Automatically generated Analog Scope traces which visualize all EMVCo measurements

Laboratories investing into the complete solution benefit from a short setup and ramp up phase. More important is the flexibility to re-use it for other EMVCo approvals including debugging and on top of that, for NFC Forum and GCF/PTCRB certifications making it a future proof invest.

EMVCo testing for Mobile Type Approval undergoes regular, usually yearly updates to improve interoperability. The test plan PICC Level 1 Digital proves compliance to EMVCo specifications for both, cards and cell phones.

COMPRION´s solution for testing the level 1, digital part of EMVCo Mobile Type Approval is running on UT³ Platform, COMPRION´s all-in-one conformance test platform.

For pre-conformance testing (execution of same test cases as on UT³ Platform) it is running on CL Verify A.

Test plan management and test case execution is controlled by Device Test Center.

All EMVCo conformance test suites (PCD L1 Analog and Digital, PICC L1 Analog and Digital) are based on Device Test Center and UT³ Platform. The flexibility to re-use the components for Mobile /Card Type Approval according to EMVCo or for NFC Forum and GCF/PTCRB testing make it a future proof invest.

With the increase of smartphones and wearables like smart watches or rings for contactless payments new EMVCo testing requirements have to be addressed by terminal manufacturers.
Furthermore EMVCo 3.0 has introduced more complexity to approval testing. COMPRIONs PCD Analog Test Solutions fulfil these new standards.

They integrate everything needed for accurate and fast positioning:

EMVCo PCD Analog Test Solution for EMVCo L1 contactless testing

Features & Benefits

  • Qualified, highly accurate positioning system, proven by measurement uncertainty study
  • Buffered pick-up coil signal captures monitoring data without need for extra antenna
  • "Live-Logs" available already during test case execution
  • Fastest test case execution
  • Automatically generated Analog Scope traces visualize all EMVCo measurements

For laboratories investing into the complete analog test solution a short ramp up phase as well as the flexibility to re-use it for Mobile /Card Type Approval according to EMVCo or for NFC Forum and even GCF/PTCRB testing make it a future proof invest.

Get Perfectly Prepared for EMVCo 3.0 Terminal Approval

Since EMVCo 3.0 activation new test requirements impact your NFC reader implementation. Hence, RF antenna design for payment terminals has become more demanding.

First of all the mandatory test equipment more than triples the number of scenarios to run. This is because three new EMV TEST PICCs (Proximity Integrated Circuit Card) are now used. Up to version 2.6b one was enough. For some test groups even six-fold runs are necessary using three linear-loads instead of two before. Even if you only test at critical positions, you must execute a high number of test scenario. Hence, automation with a robot gets really attractive. By combining cost efficient minimal hardware with  the integration of Dobot, the EMVCo PCD Analog Starter Set makes this available for all R&D teams.

Since time is money, we optimized tests to run as fast as possible. Get confident to go for the approval in the lab in half of the time to launch earlier!

Features & Benefits

  • Fast: full approval in less than four hours
  • Small: 9.5 x 3.5 x 10.8 inch (whd) plus PC and Dobot
  • Cost-efficient: non-validated hardware and minimal setup
  • Instant: setup values done for you
  • Simple: just connect Dobot

This solution is used for digital EMVCo testing of payment terminals at point of sales (POS), or mobile POS or even .
These terminals can have many shapes and degrees of integration into a checkout system or a counter solution or they can be a tiny mPOS device attached to a smartphone or tablet. In addition, even modules to be installed in ATMs (Automated Teller Machines) need EMVCo testing.

COMPRION´s solution for testing the level 1, digital part of EMVCo Terminal Type Approval is running on UT³ Platform, COMPRION´s all-in-one conformance test platform:

For pre-conformance testing (execution of same test cases as on UT³ Platform) it is running on CL Verify A:

For both test tools test plan management and test case execution are controlled by Device Test Center.

All EMVCo conformance test platforms (PCD L1 Analog and Digital, PICC L1 Analog and Digital) are based on Device Test Center and UT³ Platform. The flexibility to re-use the components for Mobile/Card / Wearable Type Approval according to EMVCo or for NFC Forum and GCF/PTCRB testing make it a future proof invest.

EMVCo COTS Test Solution To Simply Take NFC Payments

During the pandemic contactless payment has been appreciated a lot. But accepting NFC payments is usually more complicated. With the Early Adopter Programme for COTS (=Commercial-off-the-shelf) EMVCo has facilitated this. Now, certification, which is type approval in EMVCo terms, has become simpler and less costly: This is because during evaluation phase  EMVCo does not charge fees.

What is COTS or Commercial-off-the-shelf all about? EMVCo has launched its Early-Adopter-Programme to encourage smartphone and tablet manufacturers to enable accepting NFC payments on their mobile devices. To clearly differentiate, this is a separate type approval using its own COTS test tool. The scope is EMVCo Level 1 demanding testing for analog, digital and interoperability. However only analog has been modified to a subset of test cases and test positions. In addition, for the reporting EMVCo has introduced a score.

Hence the analog test bench can be run on the available options - depending on your use case

  • For a laboratory or team requiring highest accuracy positioning on UT³ Platform, the qualified tool for conformance
  • For a smaller setup and less precise positioning  CL Development Line (CL Verify A, CL Quantify, CL Amplify), the not qualified pre-conformance option
  • For the smallest setup and less precise positioning using preset setup values on CL Verify A in the Starter Set variant as alternative pre-conformance option
