The GCF (Global Certification Forum) and its American counterpart, the PTCRB work on independent certification programs that help ensuring global interoperability between mobile devices and networks. The UICC is the secure and hardware-based identification token in a mobile handset, hence its interfaces have always played an important role in this certification program. Moreover, new technologies, such as NFC, are continuously enhancing the use cases of mobile phones as well as the scope of the handset certification.
