COMPRION Launches New CCC Digital Key Test Solution for BLE

COMPRION has expanded its range of digital key testing solutions with the introduction of the CCC Digital Key Test Solution for Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). This new offering complements COMPRION’s existing NFC-based testing solution, empowering automotive manufacturers to ensure robust, reliable digital key performance over BLE technology.

Supporting Industry Standards for Seamless Connectivity
The Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC), an association dedicated to developing secure standards for smartphone-to-vehicle communication, specifies the Digital Key™ standard to operate over both NFC and BLE wireless technologies. COMPRION’s new solution is designed in accordance with the CCC's BLE-specific test cases, offering automotive companies an end-to-end interoperability test tool to ensure seamless communication between devices using the digital key.

Reliable Testing Solution with Automated BLE Communication Analysis
COMPRION's CCC Digital Key Test Solution includes two core components: the test management platform Device Test Center (DTC) and the CCC BLE Test Bench. Together, they deliver precise and automated inspection of Bluetooth Low Energy traffic, ensuring consistent and accurate results across various test cases.

COMPRION’s solution offers two data collection options:

  1. HCI Log Files: Recorded directly on the mobile device, these files offer a reliable source of data without capturing errors.
  2. Ellisys Bluetooth Tracker: Captures real-time BLE interaction data between the smartphone (Device Under Test) and a vehicle’s Bluetooth reader (Vehicle Under Test) integrated into components like door handles or the center console. In this setup, the Device Test Center (DTC) manages the Bluetooth tracker via an API, enabling dynamic real-time data collection. However, given BLE’s range (approximately 10-100 meters, depending on environment and transmission power, and up to 200 meters in open areas), this method may encounter interference from other contactless signals, making it slightly less reliable than HCI log file capture.

Key Capabilities and Features of the COMPRION's CCC Digital Key Test Solution

  • Processing of BLE Data: Supports analysis of Bluetooth LE data from either HCI log files or Ellisys Bluetooth Tracker-captured data.
  • Comprehensive Test Case Coverage: Evaluates all tool-assisted test cases specified in the CCC Digital Key™ End-to-End Interoperability Test Suite, focusing on BLE communication.
  • Detailed BLE Communication Analysis: Provides in-depth insights and debugging options to identify and resolve communication issues effectively.
  • Comprehensive Test Reporting: Automatically generates detailed test reports, ensuring thorough assessment and documentation of test outcomes.
  • Data Storage and Post-Analysis: Retains captured BLE communication data for future analysis, visualization, and test case evaluation.
  • Unified Software Framework: Operates on the same software platform as the existing NFC-based CCC Digital Key Test Solution, ensuring consistent usability across both NFC and BLE protocols.

Why Early BLE Testing is Essential for Automotive Success
Although the Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC) has yet to decide whether tool-assisted BLE testing will be mandatory or optional for certification, comprehensive BLE testing is strongly recommended. Early testing during development can reveal and resolve communication issues before they lead to costly recalls or a loss of consumer trust. Automated, tool-supported testing provides significant advantages over manual trial-and-error methods, as it not only detects issues but also identifies their exact location within the communication chain, enabling targeted and efficient problem resolution.
