The eUICC Profile Manager, a software tool for managing and testing eSIMs, now supports Multiple Enabled Profiles (MEP). This feature is defined in the latest GSMA SGP.22 v3 technical specification.
With this enhancement, developers and test engineers can proof the eSIM’s behavior when multiple profiles should be simultaneously enabled on a single eUICC—marking a significant step beyond the previous “Single Enabled Profile” approach. This makes it possible to keep several profiles active in parallel and switch between them as needed. By enabling dual SIM functionality on a single eSIM chip, the same device can, for example, be used for both business and personal purposes.
To support MEP, the eUICC Profile Manager has been extended with a new LSI-capable card reader connection. LSI (Logical Secure Element Interface) is defined in ETSI TS 102 221 and provides the basic principles for implementing MEP. The new LSI-capable card reader connection also includes a simulation of the mobile equipment (ME). This allows the MEP functionality of the eUICC to be tested through user-defined configurations. For example, it is possible to:
When activating or deactivating a profile on an MEP-enabled eUICC, the eSIM port is now also taken into account. Depending on the characteristics of the mobile equipment and the eUICC, the eSIM port to be used can be selected. This makes it possible to verify the behavior of the eUICC.
“The MEP support is the key feature of the GSMA SGP.22 v3 specification. In addition to test benches based on GSMA test specifications for the eUICC and the device/LPA, card-based testing using the eUICC Profile Manager now provides additional options for verifying MEP functionality,” explains Olaf Rethmeier, Product Manager eUICC Test Solutions at COMPRION.
For OEMs, network operators, and IoT manufacturers, this simplifies the development of devices that can use multiple mobile connections simultaneously—without requiring multiple eUICCs. The enhanced functionality addresses a growing demand in modern eSIM ecosystems and sets a new standard in the eSIM test tool landscape.
